Garvin, Gilham Pick Up CCAA Softball Weekly Awards Apr 3, 2018 SAN RAMON, Calif. — First-time honoree Aliyah Garvin of Stanislaus State joins senior ace for Chico State Haley Gilham as the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 26-April 1. CCAA Softball Player of the Week Aliyah Garvin, a freshman from Hanford, was powerful at the plate this as she helped lead the Stanislaus State to a four-game series sweep over Cal State San Marcos, as well as a two-game split with Western Washington to open the week’s action. In six games played, Garvin went 9-for-20 (.450) with two doubles and two home runs while driving in 12 and scoring five times. During the series against Cougars, she accounted for 13 of the team's 19 runs, batting .500 against the Cal State San Marcos pitchers. She was 2-for-3 with three RBI on a double and a homer in Friday's nightcap as part of a sister act as her older sister Anyssa also homered in the game. After going 1-for-3 in game one on Saturday, Garvin went 3-for-4 with six RBI in the finale. Her grand slam homer turned a 5-2 deficit into a 6-5 lead that completely changed the momentum of the game. Next, the Warriors put their four-game winning streak on the line as Stanislaus State hosts Sonoma State. Gilham posted two complete game victories, allowing just two earned runs and 10 hits while striking out 12 and holding the Toros to a .204 batting average. Gilham struck out six while allowing just a run on four hits Thursday as the Wildcats kicked off the series with a 9-1 win. She followed it up Friday with a complete game six-hitter, allowing just one earned run with six more strikeouts on the way to a 4-2 victory. Gilham is currently ranked in the Top 25 nationally in four categories, including shutouts (9 - 1st), victories (17 - 5th), hits allowed per seven innings (4.52 - 14th) and strikeouts (112 - 25th). This marks back-to-back conference weekly honors for the senior from Norco, and her fifth CCAA recognition of the year. Riding a 10-game winning streak, Chico State hits the road for its next two series.
