SAN RAMON, Calif. — The Chico Wildcat duo of Wendy Cardinali and Haley Gilham again shone on the diamond en route to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 19.25.

The Wildcats, ranked third in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll, went 5-0 on the weekend winning the 2018 Tournament of Champions crown as both Cardinali and Gilham were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
CCAA Softball Player of the Week
Leadoff hitter Wendy Cardinali hit safely in all five contests at the TOC, batting .625 (10-for-19) during the tournament, scoring nine runs and reaching base 14 times to post a .700 on-base percentage. Four of Cardinali’s 10 hits were for extra bases, as evidenced by her .938 slugging percentage.

The junior from Santa Clarita recorded back-to-back three-hit games against Notre Dame de Namur and Montana State Billings, coming around to score seven times in the two Wildcat victories. Cardinali is batting .358 on the year, leads the CCAA in runs scored (39), walks (31) and extra base hits (16) and on-base percentage (.538)

Next up, the Wildcats host Cal State Dominguez Hills with Thursday’s first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Haley Gilham delivered complete game victories in all three of her tournament starts at the TOC, allowing just one earned run and 14 hits while striking out 20 in 20 innings of work to post a 0.35 earned run average and hold opponents to a .187 batting average. Gilham allowed one unearned run Friday in a 3-1 win over Chaminade, then allowed one run on three hits Saturday in a 9-1 victory against Montana State Billings. The senior from Norco saved her best for last, blanking Western Oregon and striking out eight to record the 2-0 win on Sunday.

Gilham currently leads all CCAA pitchers in wins (15), complete games (15), strikeouts (100) and opponent batting averaging (.175) and earned run average (1.40). With nine shutouts on the season, Gilham not only leads the league but also all of NCAA Division II.

Next, the conference-leading Wildcats look to extend their six-game winning streak against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The four-game series is set to start on Thursday afternoon.
