Brown, Soto Garner CCAA Softball Weekly Awards Mar 20, 2018 SAN RAMON, Calif. — Jessica Brown of Cal State San Bernardino and San Francisco State’s Karla Soto helped their respective squads to series victories in conference action over the weekend en route to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 12-18. CCAA Softball Player of the Week Jessica Brown, a senior catcher from Rancho Cucamonga, continued her solid showing at the plate this season as the Coyotes took three of four from Stanislaus State. Brown, who leads the CCAA in hitting (.431) and slugging percentage (.861), was 5-of-9 against the Warriors. She knocked three home runs, a double and was walked five times in the series, tallying a .714 on-base percentage in the four games. Brown hit .556 with a 1.667 slugging percentage on the weekend as Cal State San Bernardino compiled 29 runs against Stanislaus State. The Coyotes travel to Turlock next to take on non-conference competition at the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Stanislaus State. Soto tossed two complete games including an eight-inning effort in the second game of the series. All told, she threw 16.2 innings over the three-game stretch, allowing just six earned for a 2.52 ERA as the Gators swept the weekend in Carson. Next, San Francisco State hits the diamond at this weekend’s Tournament of Champions in Turlock, where the squad is scheduled to take on six non-conference opponents.
