Melendez' Final Round Vaults Him to CCAA Golfer of the Week Feb 28, 2018 SAN RAMON, Calif. — Sonoma State’s Armand Melendez vaulted up the leaderboard and paced the Seawolves to the team title en route to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golfer of the Week honors for Feb. 21.27. Melendez, a freshman from Pebble Beach, captured third place at the Bay Area Invitational at The Course at Wente Vineyards in LIvermore. Highlighting Melendez's week was his final round five-under-par 67 on Tuesday that catapulted him from 23rd place up to third place on the final leaderboard in a matter of 18 holes. His 67 is the lowest round of any Seawolf in 2017-18, thanks to six birdies, 11 pars and one bogey In total for the tournament, Melendez rolled in a tournament-best 11 birdies, falling short of individual medalist honors by two shots finishing with a 54-hole total of eight-over-par, 224. As a team, the Seawolves eased to the title 10 strokes ahead of its closest competitor, Holy Names. Sonoma State placed three golfers in the top 5 individually, as Melendez was followed on teammates Dexter Simonds (79-72-74) and Spencer Clapp who finished in a tie for fourth.
