Wildcats' Haley Gilham and Otters' Madison Casto Snag CCAA Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week Honors

SAN RAMON – Chico State junior Haley Gilham and Cal State Monterey Bay senior Madison Casto were tabbed the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Apr. 3-9.


CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Gilham put together nearly identical performances in the circle and contributed offensively last weekend as the Wildcats took three-of-four on the road at Cal State San Marcos.

Gilham tossed a pair of shutouts, throwing 14 scoreless innings against the Cougars, allowing just 10 hits and six walks, while striking out 10. Overall she held the Cougars to just a .227 batting average.

In Friday's series opener, the hurler from Norco scattered five hits and struck out five and then followed up Saturday with another five hit, five strikeout performance.

Offensively, Gilham was just one-for-eight with a double and two RBI, but recorded a solid on-base percentage after reaching on five walks.

CCAA Softball Player of the Week

Casto, a first baseman from Sunnyvale, was stellar in No. 8 Cal State Monterey Bay's 3-3 week, which included a doubleheader split at Stanislaus State and a four-game series split against Cal State East Bay.

Overall, Casto was 10-for-19 (.526) at the plate and recorded a slugging percentage of .895 and an on-base percentage of .591 as a result of three walks, two home runs and a double.  She also tallied two runs and seven RBI on the weekend.

Her week was highlighted by a three-run game winning home run that helped the Otters to a 5-2 win over the Warriors in Wednesday's nightcap.

Defensively, Casto handled all 46 chances without an error and assisted in turning four double plays.
