Otters' Hayley Fein and Pioneers' Sarah Fukushima Earn CCAA Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week Honors

SAN RAMON – Cal State Monterey Bay freshman Hayley Fein and Cal State East Bay freshman Sarah Fukushima were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Mar. 20-26.


CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Fein improved her scoreless inning streak to 28 1/3 innings by tossing 12 shutout innings in Cal State Monterey Bay's sweep of Cal State San Marcos last weekend. 

Overall, the Sparks, Nev. product allowed just five hits and two walks, hit three batters, while collecting 10 strikeouts. 

Fein led the weekend off with a three-hit complete game victory. Then on Saturday, she allowed just two hits in four innings in game one and then fanned all three batters faced in a perfect inning of relief to close out the series.

CCAA Softball Player of the Week

Fukushima, a Sacramento native, had another monster weekend at the plate to lead Cal State East Bay to a four-game sweep of Stanislaus State. 

In 15 total plate appearances Fukushima totaled six hits, four runs, a double, three home runs, and nine RBI for an average of .400 and a slugging percentage of 1.067.

Fukushima added to her CCAA-leading home run total with a long ball hit in three of four games played, while also connecting for a double in the series opener on Thursday afternoon. Her weekend was highlighted by her performance in Saturday's series finale as she went three-for-three at the plate with a run scored, a home run and two RBI.
