Humboldt State's Madison Williams and Chico State's Cailin Garmon Named CCAA Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week
SAN RAMON – Humboldt State's Madison Williams and Chico State Cailin Garmon respectively snagged this season's first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 1-5.
CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Brentwood native, Williams picked up where she left off last season, going 3-0 with an 0.93 ERA at the Montana State-Billings-hosted Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas.
The hurler snagged All-Tournament Pitcher honors after fanning 21 batters and allowing just five walks and two earned runs in 15 total innings pitched.
Williams tossed two complete games, including a seven-inning, nine-strikeout performance against Minot State in the Tournament finale. In the season opener she pitched three scoreless inning of one-hit ball and struck out seven.

CCAA Softball Player of the Week
Garmon, a senior from Sacramento, was the Wildcats' offensive catalyst as Chico State was a perfect 5-0, including wins over Augustana (S.D.), Western Oregon, Western New Mexico, Cal Baptist, adn Montana State-Billings, at the season-opening Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas.
She batted .444 (8-for-18) and posted a .500 on-base percentage, scoring nine runs and stealing eight bases in as many attempts. Garmon had three mulitple steal performances, caping off the tournament by stealing three bases and scoring four runs in Sunday's 4-0 victory over the Yellowjackets.
Garmon also picked up a victory in the pitcher's circle, tossing four innings of shutout relief and striking out eight in Friday's come-from-behind, eight-inning win over Western Oregon.
