UC San Diego's Katie O'Laughlin and Chico State's Omar Nuño Earn CCAA Soccer Player of the Week Honors

San Ramon – UC San Diego's Katie O'Laughlin and Chico State's Omar Nuño each recorded their first hat-tricks of the season en route to earning the Conference's Soccer Player of the Week honors for the weekend of Sept. 1-4.


Women's Soccer Player of the Week

O'Laughlin bagged her first collegiate three-goal game to lead the Tritons to a 5-0 home victory over 12th-ranked PacWest favorite Azusa Pacific in the 2016 season opener last Thursday night. 

The Carlsbad native needed just 27 seconds to begin her 2016 account and then improved the Tritons lead to 2-0 at 14:05 after heading in a UCSD corner kick. O'Laughlin completed her hat trick in the 86th minute, giving her team a 4-0 lead over the Cougars. 

Overall, O'Laughlin was four-for-four in shots on goal with three scores.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Nuño, a senior from Healdsburg, accounted for all of the scoring for the Wildcats Saturday, recording his second career hat trick in Chico State's 3-2 win over Seattle Pacific.

The 2015 CCAA Newcomer of the Year opened the scoring with a goal off of a cross just 2:59 into the contest, then in the second half put Chico State back in front by dribbling past three defenders and scoring from point blank range. Nuño provided the match-winning goal in the 72nd minute, connecting on a free kick from an estimated 20 feet out.

Nuño converted three of four shot attempts for a Conference-best six points on the weekend.
