Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK - UC San Diego shortstop Vance Albitz has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 1-7, it was announced on Monday.
Albitz, a senior from Torrance, Calif. sparked the Tritons' offense as UC San Diego posted a 4-1 record that included a three-game sweep of No. 18 Western Oregon. Albitz batted .455 (10-for-22) with five runs scored, three doubles, a triple, home run, three walks and four RBI. He recorded an .818 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage.
Albitz hit safely in four of five games and had three multiple-hit games. During a three-game series against Western Oregon, he went 6-for-13 (.461) with two runs scored, a double, triple, home run and two RBI.
UC San Diego returns to action on Friday when it hosts Grand Canyon in the opener of a four-game series.

Wilson/CCAA Pitcher of the Week
WALNUT CREEK - UC San Diego right-hander Daniel Simmons has been named Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 1-7, it was announced on Monday.
Simmons, a junior from Encino, Calif., made two appearances and went 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA. He made his season debut in a relief role against San Diego Christian, worked two 2 2/3 innings, allowed four hits, three runs, walked two and struck out two.
Simmons came back on Friday in a starting role against No. 18 Western Oregon and earned a complete-game victory. In seven innings, he allowed five hits, an unearned run, walked one and struck out eight.
UC San Diego is back in action on Friday when it opens a four-game series against Grand Canyon.
