SHANGHAI, China - Former Cal State Dominguez Hills track standout Carmelita Jeter flirted with history at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Sunday.
Jeter won the women's 100 in 10.64 to become the second-fastest woman of all time.
Only the late Florence Griffith-Joyner ran faster - a total of three times, including her world record of 10.49 set in 1988.
The performance comes on the heels of an impressive showing at the World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki, Greece a week earlier. Jeter stunned the crowd with a stellar 10.67 championship record in the 100 meters.
Jeter was a standout Toro in her four years in Carson, Calif. with a total of five All-America awards, peaked by a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the 2003 NCAA Championships. Over her highly-decorated Toro track career, Jeter established all the all-time sprint marks, holding the school records in the outdoor 100 (11.43) and 200 (23.65), as well as the indoor 55 (7.04), 60 (7.50) and 200 (24.56).
