Twelve CCAA Track and Field Athletes Earn Academic All-American Honors

WALNUT CREEK - Twelve California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) student-athletes, including seven from UC San Diego, were named to the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Track and Field team that was announced on Monday.
UC San Diego was represented by Marie Archer, Kelly Fogarty, Anna Lee McGregor, Leah Murphy, Linda Rainwater, Brianna Schofield and Katie Skorupa. Franziska Dobler, Shianne Smith and Vivien Wadeck were named from Cal State L.A. while Jasimen Bailey and Rosemary Feikert were selected from Cal State Stanislaus.
Rainwater was tabbed the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Goleta, Calif. native won the NCAA title in the high jump and was third in the heptathlon.
The USTFCCCA honors Division II individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
