CHICO, Calif. - Chico State continued its reign over the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) as it captured its sixth straight men's conference championship at University Stadium in Chico on Saturday.
The Wildcats, led by CCAA Coach of the Year Kirk Freitas, totaled 247.50 points to record a convincing victory. UC San Diego (164) was second, followed by Cal Poly Pomona (130), Cal State Stanislaus (115), Humboldt State (84) and Cal State L.A. (63).
Cal Poly Pomona Jonathan Williams was tabbed CCAA Male Athlete of the Meet after winning three individual titles and helping the Broncos' 4 x 100 meter relay team to a second place finish. Williams topped the field in the 100 and 200 meter events.
Junior Jersain Torres, also from Cal Poly Pomona was named Newcomer of the Year after winning Friday's 10,000 meter race.
UC San Diego's Nick Howe, who won the javelin with a throw of 189-10, was selected Freshman of the Year.
