POMONA — Verena Preikschas and Vanesa Reibstein move on in both singles and doubles competition after one day of play at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships at Cal Poly Pomona.
After having first round byes, Preikschas and Reibstein each disposed of their opponents in a second-round match on Thursday to advance to the round of 16 on Friday. The pair also had a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed in double's play and will play on Friday.
No. 3 seeded Preikschas defeated Jennifer Chow of Cal Poly Pomona on her home court, 6-4, 6-0 to advance while Reibstein, the No. 4 seed, beat Sonoma State's Stephanie Hoffmire, 6-0, 7-6 (3).
Brianna McClintock and Heather Cotter both won their round one matches before losing in the second match of the day.
In doubles competition, Katie Eng and McClintock defeated Dixie State's Ashley Lafeen and Alicia Holm, 8-2, to advance to Friday's round of 16 against a team from Cal State L.A.
Preikschas and Reibstein sat out team play on Thursday with a bye and will see Cal Poly Pomona's Kaitlin Woolridge and Christie Lau on Friday.
Singles matches get underway at 9 a.m. with quarterfinals at 11:30 a.m. while doubles play starts at 2 p.m. with quarterfinals scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
