Augustana
outscores Colorado Christian in second half for win
ANAHEIM Ñ Despite a
less-than-stellar shooting night from Amy Puthoff, Augustana still manage to
put together a strong second half as the Vikings defeated Colorado Christian, 73-54,
in game five of the womenÕs division of the inaugural DisneyÕs West Coast
Tip-off Classic.
After trailing 37-32
at the break, Augustana outscored the Cougars 41-17 in the second half to pull
away.
The eight-team
tournament is presented by DisneyÕs Wide World of Sports and the Disneyland
Resort. The three-day menÕs and womenÕs basketball tournament is being held at
the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.
Puthoff, who entered
the final day of the tournament as the top scorer among the four teams, was
4-for-13 from the field for the game. She still led her team with 15 points
while her teammate Ashley Holiday added 14 points. Whitney Hofer had a
double-double with13 points and 13 rebounds as Augustana goes 2-1 on the
weekend.
Colorado Christian was
led by Ainsley BarrattÕs nine points off the bench. She scored seven of her
points in the first half. Talmai Aguirre, who had seven point at the break, was
held to just a pair of free throws in the second half.
Colorado Christian led
at the half, 37-32, shooting 46.7 percent. CCU was led by five three-pointers
and seven first half points from Aguirre and Barratt.
