Roadrunners Use Strong
Second Half To Key Season Opening Win over MSU-Billings
ANAHEIM Ñ In both team's
2007-08 opener at they Disney Division II West Coast Tip-Off Classic, it was
the Metro State Roadrunners defeating the Montana State-Billings
Yellowjackets.
The eight-team tournament
is presented by DisneyÕs Wide World of Sports and the Disneyland Resort. The
three-day menÕs and womenÕs basketball tournament is being held at the Anaheim
Convention Center Arena.
Daniel Bass paced Metro
State with a game high 16 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field including 4
of 9 from three-point land. He also added 11 rebounds. Guiseppe
Ciancio added 13 points off the bench while Hayden Smith and Terrell Burgess
each chipped in 10 points. Jeff Miner had 15 points to lead the way for
Montana State-Billings.
The first half went back
and forth with Metro State gaining the largest advantage on a Lawrence Billings
lay-up with 10:18 left (15-10). The Yellowjackets finished the half
outscoring their opponents 15-10 to tie the game at 25-25 going into the locker
room.
The Roadrunners started
the second half on a 33-14 run to take its largest lead 58-39 with 7:36 to go
in the game. Montana State-Billings cut the lead to single digits on a
three by Jeff Miner (58-50) with 5:55 to go, but could not get any
closer.
Metro State returns to
action tomorrow afternoon at 2:30pm, when they play Kentucky Wesleyan while
Montana State-Billings will face CSU San Bernardino tomorrow afternoon at
noon. The Roadrunners will conclude their play in the Disney Division II
West Coast Tip-Off Classic on Sunday at 6:30pm against CSU San
Bernardino. The Yellowjackets will face Kentucky Wesleyan at 4pm in their
final game of the Classic.
